On July 9, at the 41st International Conference on High Energy Physics (ICHEP2022), Yi Kai, a professor of Nanjing Normal University and visiting professor of Tsinghua University, on behalf of the CMS cooperation group on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiment, reported the discovery of a strange particle family that may be composed of four charm quarks. Because these particles may be composed of the same heavy flavor quark inside, the physical image is relatively clear and easy to understand, which can provide a new window for studying strong interactions.
The "Tsinghua Nanjing Normal University" CMS team jointly formed by researchers from Tsinghua University and Nanjing Normal University played an original and leading role in the above research. This is the first time that a Chinese experimental team has observed a fully charmed four quark particle on the LHC, and it is also the first time that China has led the discovery of new particles on the CMS experiment.
The CMS cooperation group is composed of more than 4000 members from more than 50 countries and about 240 units. Among them, the members of the Chinese group are from the Institute of High Energy Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Peking University, University of Science and Technology of China, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Tsinghua University, Sun Yat sen University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Nanjing Normal University and other units.
