In order to reduce the epidemic risk of entry workers to Singapore, the number of work permit holders entering Singapore is limited to a very small range. The Ministry of Human Resources announced the extension of this plan on May 23 to help more companies hire workers already in Singapore. This temporary plan will be extended to May 31, 2022.
The temporary policy has also eased the pressure on some industries in Singapore due to the shortage of staff due to the prohibition of the application for new work permits and the restriction on the entry of some people with work permits. In principle, the previous employer's consent is required before applying for a new work visa. However, if the permit expires within 40 days, in principle, the new company can hire new foreign employees without the consent of the original employer.
The temporary plan for 2022 is expanded as follows:
A. Allow workers to change jobs across industries, applicable to all departments:

B. Workers whose work permit is about to expire are allowed to change jobs in all departments:

The validity of the work permit needs to be between 40 days and 21 days (inclusive), without the consent of the current employer.. This is an extension of the existing plan of the construction and processing industry to change jobs within its own sector.
