WordPress version 5.9 was released today. The new version supports full site editing through block themes, and the block editor has also been greatly improved and optimized.
The editor of the whole station is here
The whole site editor allows us to control the site in the WordPress background.
2022 Default Theme
The default theme 2022 (Twenty Twenty Two) released with WordPress 5.9 is the first default block theme in WordPress history, so it is not only a default theme, but also a new way to use WordPress themes.
Block themes allow you to directly perform various visual operations through the Site Editor, from color schemes and font combinations to page templates and image filtering. In other words, you can set the 2022 theme display interface in one place, and all operations are visible.
Not only 2022
2022 is not the only theme created by the whole website editor. There are more themes in the official WordPress theme directory, and the number is increasing.
When we use these block themes, we no longer need the previous theme customizer, but the ability to customize interfaces in various styles in the new site editor.
Navigation block
Site navigation also supports blocks. Everything is really a block. We can choose from responsive menus that are always open, or multiple different menus that can be adapted according to the user's screen. Specifically, WordPress 5.9 will save the selected menu as a custom article type to the database.
More improvements and updates
Do you often blog? New adjustments to the release process can make us write more and faster.
Better editing block controls
WordPress 5.9 has brought new typesetting tools and more flexible layout controls, which can allow us to control the spacing, border and other details more precisely. This not only allows us to set a beautiful appearance, but also shows that we pay attention to and polish the details.
New capabilities for block templates
The official WordPress block template directory already has a large number of created block templates, which can be quickly applied to the site with a simple click, and can also be edited and modified according to your own needs. You need to add something different to the header and footer of the theme. Through the block template, you can replace it with a new one with just a few clicks.
In addition, the template manager is a near full screen view, which allows us to see the details of the template more clearly, and then quickly compare different templates to select the one you need.
Improved list view
In 5.9, the list view allows us to drag and drop content to any desired location, which makes it easier to manage complex documents: when building a site, we can expand and collapse some content, and add HTML anchors between blocks to help users quickly browse the page.
Better gallery block
Now you can operate each picture in the gallery block just like you can operate pictures in the gallery block. You can set different styles for each picture in the gallery, or all the same except one or two pictures. Finally, you can change the layout by dragging and dropping.
WPJAM Basic will also be updated to version 5.9 synchronously soon, and I will continue to update it according to WordPress 5.9, focusing on compatibility and performance optimization. If you have any use problems, please feedback.
